The Stone Hut is the base for the Curatorial and Conservationist staff and also includes the archives and artefacts for the whole south eastern region. So not only will you see Roman pots and coins from Richborough dating to AD43 but also remnants of stained glass windows from Battle Abbey and Cold War instruments from 1960's.   The Stone Hut is situated opposite the NAAFI and was the one time Barracks of the Royal Garrison Artillery.

Staff and volunteers open the Stone Hut to the public once a month - firts Friday of the month - but teh public are not allowed to go where we go nor see the artefacts we get to see.  Our special guided tours are put on especially for us and are always fascinating and different.

As well as seeing some incredible artefacts and archives, we learn how staff have to take care of all the different collections. how ancient pieces are cleaned and conserved and specially stored.
